A WAY OUT FROM TEMPTATION

Photobucket
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Just started to get the plate out of the cupboard.

The 'goal' was: 2 slices of banana bread with smothered butter on top, and four cookies. Yes, four would do wonderful. Two chocolate chip and two peanut butter.

Ok, here I go..

Ring, ring.

Look at caller id.

hmmmmmm..my prayer partner who has been on the 40 Day Journey with me.

"So whatcha doin? Have you finished supper" she asks.

Nothing! Yes, we finished.

Heck, I am not telling her I was just about ready to eat dessert.

I felt the Holy Spirit's nudge...

Angela, you don't need this and God your Father has made a way out.

"Ok Lord."

After I got off the phone, this scripture came to my spirit.

Now there is nothing wrong with having dessert.

The problem is when I want to start having it every single day.

I don't have to have dessert every single day. Especially if I am not even hungry.

Satisfied from my delicious supper meal.

A few weeks back my girlfriend had shared that she has an addiction to junk and sweet food.

My comment:

"Oh, I don't have that struggle at all. I HARDLY ever have dessert."

WHAM....off I tumble.

Since I have made that comment to her two weeks back, believe it or not, I have been eating sweets at least 5 out of the 7 days! From someone who may have dessert, MAY once a week!

Yesterday I felt the Holy Spirit reveal something to me.

Angela, you did not hunger for those sweets because I took that desire away. It had NOTHING to do with you NOT wanting it. It was totally My doing.

'ohhhhhhhhhhh...ok. I guess I was taking all the credit here wasn't I? It REALLY wasn't about me not desiring it, but You working in me not to desire it."

Have you ever experienced times in your life when you were ready to do something that you know wasn't the 'best' for you.

Sit down to watch a tv program that would not 'feed' your spirit man but your flesh?

Grab the container of ice cream?

Want to share a juicy tid bit of gossip with someone?

Than the phone rings, someone knocks on the door, the conversation starts to move in another direction.

Remember:
But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Later in the evening, I felt the pull to have the dessert I had intended to eat a few hours back.

Nothing wrong with having dessert right?

Nope, nothing wrong with that at all.

I wasn't hungry though.

I felt the Holy Spirit speak again to my heart:

Angela, I made a way out for you. Stay out!

Thank You Father God for making a way out for us. Help us to stay out and stay close to You.

amen amen amen

yes, He does give us the energy and the desire to will and to work for His good pleasure.Philippians 2:13 I believe.

It's never about trying harder but about trusting and believing more...and even that we cannot do, only He can!

I love that you share all of the wonderful things God is teaching you through your life! Thank you!

THank God He makes a way, when we are all about doing things OUR way! Nothing else can save us from ourselves but Him!

Daveda--you're right---only HE can!

Angela, I love the comment you left me :)

I am so glad to have you along side on this journey.

Yes, yes, and yes! The harder we TRY the less freedom and victory we walk in. I think it has something to do with the fact that trying harder is still self focus, not Jesus focus. However, asking Him to help us trust Him and move with His Spirit is focusing on Him and His ability to do in/for us, what we cannot do, no matter how hard we try.
